The next G.I. Joe film will aim to be very different from Rise of Cobra with the most notable change coming in the starring role. The previous headliner was Channing Tatum who was deemed at the time as an up-and-coming star, but even with the recent surge in the actor’s notoriety for his latest efforts, Paramount has opted to replace the front man with Dwayne Johnson. The wrestler-turned-actor was deemed responsible for revitalizing the Fast and the Furious franchise with his performance opposite Vin Diesel in 2011′s half a billion-grossing Fast Fast, and the studio enlisted him in the hopes of salvaging what they perceive to be their opportunity at a recurring nine-figure film franchise.
With that being said, we are not surprised that despite the fact that Tatum remains in Retaliation Dwayne Johnson is the one getting posterized. His character’s name is Roadblock.
Additional cast members in the film include Bruce Willis and Adrianne Palicki. John M. Chu is directing.
