Scarlett Johansson Will Not Be in ‘Iron Man 3′

The Avengers is about a week away from its inevitable record-breaking opening, yet there is some casting news surrounding the super hero feature that came to our attention just the other day which some might find surprising.  Scarlett Johansson aka The Black Widow who is in both The Avengers and Iron Man 2 has gone on the record saying she will not be in the third Iron Man movie.

This goes against the assumption that while The Black Widow’s addition to the last Iron Man film was to plant some Avengers seeds she would remain with the franchise in a supporting role.  With no apparent Black Widow spin-off in the works, it now appears that for the time being she will be an Avengers exclusive.  That is not to say the actress is against doing other Marvel features.  In comments Johansson made to Screen Rant, she announced her desire to star in a solo effort which she suspects would end up looking a lot like a Bourne movie.

Needless to say, Marvel will probably weigh that option as they continually seek to milk their comic book vault.  After a few years of inflating The Avengers though, they might prefer to introduce a unique character when they are next faced with a void in the studio’s loaded schedule.  Ant-Man currently is the odds on favorite to get some big screen attention as Shaun of the Dead director Edgar Wright has reportedly been working on such a project for years.
