Last night was the penultimate episode of Game of Thrones’ second season which meant one thing: The Battle of Blackwater. This installment of the fantasy series was very much anticipated as the event at hand was alluded to pretty much all season long as an inevitability. Now that fans got to see it go down, it is time to digest what we just saw. What better way to do so than to check out the inside the episode featurette that HBO released to go with the episode.
As you will see, the episode was seen as a game changer for the character of Tyrion Lannister (Peter Dinklage) who shifted from selfish mastermind to noble hero. That is specifically what made this episode such a noteworthy edition to the series as many assumed he would play a pivotal role in the engagement, but those who have not read the books probably assumed the Emmy-winner actor would be more or less a behind-the-scenes player.
While I wish the following video spent more time on Tyrion considering how he made the episode, it also discusses Cersei Lannister (Lena Heady) and Bronn (Jerome Flynn.) Also lacking is discussion of the elaborate battle scene which many compare to Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers. Perhaps that will be how HBO sells the Blu-Ray box sets…
“We’ve got brave men knocking at our door. Let’s go kill them!” – Tyrion Lanister
Do not forget that there is still another episode yet to air this season. Tune in Sunday, June 3 for the season finale which has already received its own teaser promo.
