There is sad news to report on Private Practice. While the show did manage to defy the odds and win a renewal for next season, the Grey’s Anatomy spin-off series will reportedly be losing its original leading lady come mid-season. Kate Walsh will officially be exiting the role of Addison Montgomery which the actress played for the past seven years.
Deadline broke the story tonight, and they say that she has apparently been trying to leave the show for some time. ABC somehow got her to sign on for 13 more episodes which should help provide some closure to fans of the medical drama. This also might give the series time to prepare for her departure and retool the show.
Ultimately though, any post-Walsh future with Private Practice has to go through the broadcast network’s executives who have reportedly been content with boxing the series after its upcoming sixth season. With Tim Daly cut from the show earlier this week, it would certainly appear that any hope for the series to live through 2013 has just gone out the door.
