The development on the anticipated sequel to Fox’s sleeper hit Rise of the Planet of the Apes keeps on ticking at the studio has recruited a writer known for working on Matt Damon films to make sense of the initial draft. Informant screenwriter Scott Z. Burns will be working on the latest iteration of the script which will inevitably go to Rupert Wyatt to direct. The movie is definitely in good hands as Burns has other credits that include The Bourne Ultimatum as well as a contingent of Steven Soderbergh films.
While it may seem like development is sluggish considering the screenplay is still being worked on nine months after getting the green light, the studio never expected the sequel to drop before summer 2014 anyways, so in that sense the movie is still on track.
Details at this time remain scarce, but what we do know is that Andy Serkis has already signed a lucrative and option-heavy contract to reprise his motion-capture performance as Caesar. Other than that, audiences will have to operate on assumptions for now that the movie will continue where its reboot left off with apes possibly taking over cities and so forth. Look for more details to emerge after the script is finalized and shooting begins which might not be until next year.
