Peter Berg Suggests ‘Hancock’ Sequel Is Closer Than Ever

Between Men in Black III and I Am Legend 2 we thought there could not possibly be any more room for another Will Smith-lead sequel, but word has just hit that the long-gestating Hancock 2 is now closer than ever to actually happening as the franchise’s director Peter Berg recently dished on a conversation he had with the actor:

“We seemed to have an idea, but we’re all crazy and really busy. But if we can now do what we all said we’d do, there’s a very good chance it will get made.”

This news comes just one week after Warner Bros. announced that they will be remaking the Sidney Poitier, Bill Cosby comedy Uptown Saturday Night with eyes on Smith and Denzel Washington for the leads.  Seeing how Smith’s production company developed the project, it is expected that the actor will certainly star in this feature in addition to a role in Akiva Goldsman’s A Winter’s Tale.

Both of these projects may not be set in stone, but add in the fact that Fox could potentially throw a ton of money the actor’s way to reprise his role in two Independence Day sequels and it would appear like Smith is booked solid.

Berg of course has been out doing press for Battleship which releases in the United States on May 18.  The movie has already ran up an international box office gross north of $170 million, but pessimism surrounding a domestic performance is almost certain to leave the big budget offering without a sequel effort.  Perhaps that is why the director is already lining up another gig after the Taylor Kitsch-lead feature lands in theaters.
