‘Prometheus’ Hints At Big Box Office Performance with Strong French Debut

The box office is about to be set ablaze as Prometheus is reportedly debuting strong in international markets.  This is good news for Fox as the Ridley Scott-directed feature had a lot of doubters early on as mystery surrounding sci-fi seldom results in an incredible product, but apparently pent up Alien demand does not care.  The same goes with reviewers who actually saw the film already and are giving it high marks across the board.

That said, we are not surprised today by news of Prometheus’ stellar Wednesday international debut in regards to a French opening that ranks second behind The Avengers for the year.  The prequel effort brought in $1.5 million its first day which is a fairly big deal there as it bests both Men in Black 3 and Sherlock Holmes 2.

With strong pre-sales suggesting similar numbers will light up Europe in the weeks ahead, we now look forward to hearing more and more about the domestic release in the U.S.  Early tracking has Prometheus at $60 million for its first three days which is rather high considering its R-rated nature.  Chalk that up to the cast that includes Michael Fassbender, Charlize Theron, and Idris Elba among others who may just be the next major blockbuster collaboration that makes big waves at the box office.
