Rebecca Hall To Snag ‘Iron Man 3′ Role Vacated By Jessica Chastain

Throughout the past several weeks, there has been a will she-won’t she situation involving casting of Iron Man 3.  The subject of which was Jessica Chastain (The Help) who was reportedly up for a key role multiple times; however, it was not to be as just yesterday the actress revealed via Facebook that she is too busy at this time to take up the gig as female muse alongside Gwyneth Paltrow.

Alas, there is someone new in the discussion this week as it would appear the front runner for the yet to be announced character is none other than The Town actress Rebecca Hall.   She is an under the radar movie star with a laundry list of quality credits that including Frost/Nixon and Christopher Nolan’s The Prestige.  That last one is a bit interesting because Scarlett Johansson was also in that film, and the addition of another female character in the third Iron Man movie is meant to replace her Black Widow character which is now perceived to be an Avengers exclusive.

Even though this new character’s name is yet to be revealed, that does not mean we lack information about what she will be like.  According to reports thus far, Hall could be playing a sexy scientist every bit as smart as Tony Stark.  This of course is reminiscent to the villain in Iron Man 2 which may not have been sexy, but did rival Stark’s genius.  It will be interesting to see how things are differentiated beyond that to keep things feeling fresh.  That responsibility will hang over Shane Black who is succeeding Jon Favreau as franchise director.
