There are a whole lot of conflicting reports being thrown about as to what analysts perceive to be the weekend’s ultimate rankings, but it looks like Madagascar 3 should come away with the top spot. Preliminary projections have the film grossing beyond $30 million in its second weekend, beating Adam Shankman’s Rock of Ages and Sean Anders’ That’s My Boy which will both be making their box office debut today.
In regards to the new films, people are differing on the issue as to whether either of them could even pass the $30 million mark. It seems as if everybody has Rock of Ages about $5 million on top of Adam Sandlers’ newest effort mostly because he chose to go rated ‘R.’ This is seen as a return to form for the actor who originally rose to fame with his adult stand-up material, but his audience nowadays is firmly in the PG-13 category. Nobody expects this movie to find large returns and if anything, they figure it could bomb hard.
Other films are likely to fall the standard 30-50% depending on the movie. It would appear that some believe The Avengers will finally start showing some retention this week and might only drop 20%. If the Joss Whedon-directed blockbuster misses the top five, it will not be by much.
