Just two months ago, Will Ferrell took to Conan to announce that the sequel to Anchorman was finally going to happen. The entire news team would assemble including Paul Rudd, Steve Carell, and David Koechner. With those first two have full-on leading man credits of their own, this seemed a bit too good to be true until seeing the film’s early teasers proved that the Adam McKay-directed effort would indeed be happening.

Questions remained though as to whether the entire cast really would return in large part due to the film’s unwritten script. More specifically, people wanted to know if Christina Applegate would be reprising her role as Veronica Corningstone. Even when promoting Up All Night last month, the actress still did not have the answer…until today.
Word is coming from CeleBuzz that she will indeed be returning. Of course, details as to whether or not she went on to have ten of Ron Burgandy’s babies are being kept under wraps, but it is definitely nice to see all of the major cast members returning. The only thing that fans really know right now in regards to plot is that it will deal with the growing proliferation of the 24-hour news cycle thanks to cable.
Anchorman: The Legend Continues is due out in August of next year where it will seek to replicate its solid box office performance from nine years prior. Back then, the movie grossed $90.5 million worldwide on a budget of $25 million which is shockingly one of the reasons why a second effort took so long to happen. The initial budget projections had the sequel pegged at $80 million, making profitability far from a certainty.
