Earlier in the week, it was announced that Roseanne Barr would be the roastee for Comedy Central annual slam-fest, and today brings news as to who will primarily be doing the roasting. The gig will go to Jane Lynch who will be picking up for Seth MacFarlane who has been the roast master in recent years. This should be an oddly familiar role for the Glee star as she hosted the Emmy Awards last year which is kind of the same thing minus the laughs.

NEW YORK, June 27, 2012 – COMEDY CENTRAL is pairing up two of America’s fiercest comedians. The network announced today that Jane Lynch will be the Roast Master for the upcoming “COMEDY CENTRAL Roast Of Roseanne” (#RoseanneRoast). The event will tape in Los Angeles on Saturday, August 4 and will premiere on COMEDY CENTRAL on Sunday, August 12 at 10:00 p.m. ET/PT.
“I’ve long fantasized of ripping Roseanne Barr a new one. But because I don’t have the cajones to say anything offensive to her face, I will be hosting the proceedings,” said Lynch.
The “COMEDY CENTRAL Roast Of Roseanne” will be executive produced by Joel Gallen from Tenth Planet Productions, who also served as Executive Producer and Director of the COMEDY CENTRAL Roasts Of Charlie Sheen, Donald Trump, David Hasselhoff, Joan Rivers, Larry The Cable Guy, Bob Saget, Flavor-Flav, Pamela Anderson, as well as the Emmy®-nominated “COMEDY CENTRAL Roast Of William Shatner.” Jonas Larsen is the Executive in Charge for the network.
