Maggie Gyllenhaal Becomes Latest to Join ‘White House Down’

There is more White House Down news to report this week as word has it that Maggie Gyllenhaal is currently in talks to join the project as the female lead.  Today’s news follows yesterday’s which had Jamie Foxx being cast as the U.S. president in this Roland Emmerich-directed effort that sees the White House under attack.  While we do not know for sure what Gyllenhaal will be playing, it might be a good assumption that Channing Tatum fans can cross this love connection off their Bingo cards.

For those not in the know, Tatum will fill the shoes of a Secret Service agent at the center of it all.  Details on that role are scarce as well, but considering this movie is often compared to Die Hard in the trades, it would be smart to assume he spends a lot of time in the air ducts metaphorically speaking.  It may be hard to imagine him as a Bruce Willis-type actor; however, after seeing him in romantic (The Vow) and comedic (21 Jump Street) roles in the past year it would appear that he has a diverse repertoire capable of performing well in the action genre outside of the poorly received G.I. Joe: Rise of Cobra.

It is worth noting at this time that today’s news is not quite announcing the next big screen role for Gyllenhaal as the actress can next be seen in Daniel Barnz’s Won’t Back Down alongside Viola Davis (The Help.)  That movie bows in September.
