Reports are surfacing tonight that the Charlize Theron-backed modern day version of Hatfields & McCoys has found a network. NBC is picking up the series which is being developed through ABC Studios with a significant penalty attached to it meaning that the broadcaster will likely end up putting the show on the air regardless of how the pilot turns out.
This project was not on the shelf too long before getting picked up as the first information came out just last week. It really was the runaway success of Kevin Costner’s Hatfields & McCoys mini-series that brought this new take on the family feud to light. The three-night event shattered basic cable ratings records with over 13 million viewers into each outing, thus the freight train like speed at which a broadcaster picked up the retelling.
Theron is very unlikely to have an onscreen appearance in this one as her film career is still going strong. The Academy Award-winner has two big budget blockbusters assigned to the month of June. Snow White and the Huntsman released last week to mixed reviews matched with moderate box office success, while tomorrow will witness the actress starring alongside Michael Fassbender and Noomi Rapace in Ridley Scott’s Alien prequel Prometheus.
