Today brings word of another key casting move for Jose Padihla’s upcoming remake to Robocop. The film is apparently eyeing Sucker Punch actress Abbie Cornish for the film’s female lead opposite Joel Kinnaman (The Killing.) To be more specific about it, the role is that of Mrs. RoboCop who is under the assumption that she is a widow for some portion of the movie.
This news joins a flurry of reports over the past few weeks that also saw Gary Oldman and Samuel L. Jackson climbing aboard the James Vanderbilt-scripted project. Those two on-screen veterans have been cast as the cyborg’s inventor and a media mogul respectively with not much else being said about either role.
In terms of plot details, those are non-existent at this time, but it was recently revealed that RoboCop will have some sort of visor that is built with the intent of showing more of his face than the original costume does. Hopefully that is enough information to tide fans over until the more information comes to light. Shooting is expected to begin in September with a release date target of August 2013.
