A lot of us falsely assumed that Danny McBride would be moving on from his HBO comedy Eastbound & Down, but the premium network today disproved that notion by picking up the series for a fourth season earlier today. The show is not exactly a smash hit; however, it is a cheaply-produced filler comedy capable of not embarrassing itself. Over one million viewers a week still tune into the series that is executive produced by Funny or Die founders Will Ferrell and Adam McKay.
The news joins that of another major renewal issued by HBO earlier today. The network gave another season to The Newsroom after only two episodes. This move was not a surprise; however, it goes without mentioning that the series was not a huge performer like True Blood, Game of Thrones, and even Boardwalk Empire which made the Aaron Sorkin-scripted drama the least successful of the network’s currently running efforts in the genre.
