There is some fresh news to report today on the heavily anticipated sequel to Thor. The Dark World will start shooting next month in the Bourne woods area of Lincolnshire, England at which point it plans on recruiting a whole lot of extras. Furthermore, everything is expected to be cleaned up in the area by October 13.
This news comes via a community announcement by the production company Asgard Productions II UK Ltd for a film under the working title Tuesday Mourning. It seems kind of weird that they would mask the identity of the Thor sequel in such a plainly obvious fashion, but then again it did take a while for this to become uncovered as the letter was dated July 3.
We will be establishing a fictional village set in another realm, with yurts and village like dressing in the bowl. The sequence involves a battle between two kingdoms, ending in our comic book hero arriving to save the day. The sequence will involve a substantial amount of Stunts and controlled special effects all within the hours 0700 – 1900hrs.
We plan to use most of the areas that are usually occupied by film units for all our support vehicles. The sequence will involve approximately 300 extras who will arrive in the early hours prior to call time to go through costume and makeup, which we will undertake in marquees positioned on site. As always we will endeavour to keep any noise disruption to an absolute minimum.
Not only does this imply that a frost giant-like battle scene is in the cards, but it also validates what we have heard from producer Kevin Feige about the movie. He has gone on the record saying that Thor: The Dark World would explore another part of Asgard. This is pretty much confirmed by use of the phrase ‘two kingdoms’ as opposed to ‘two realms’ which would of course imply that the subtitle is alluding to the other side of Asgard and not necessarily a whole different world.
Furthermore, use of the woods might validate that Malekith the Accursed (leaders of the dark elves) will be the film’s central villain. No one has taken up the role just yet, but you might recall that Mads Mikkelsen (Casino Royale) was set to play the bad guy before dropping out due to a scheduling conflict.
Cast members of Thor: The Dark World include Chris Hemsworth, Tom Hiddleston, Anthony Hopkins, and Natalie Portman. The movie is set to release on November 8, 2013.
