Martin Sheen to Become Series Regular on Charlie Sheen’s ‘Anger Management’

Charlie Sheen has had no problems bringing in people he has known or worked with in the past for his new FX series.  This was best evidenced when even his ex-wife Denise Richards showed up for an episode earlier this season, but what we are hearing today is a bit beyond that.  Word is that Charlie’s real life father Martin Sheen has been set to become a series regular as the actor’s on-screen father.

Having joined Anger Management, this will mark Martin Sheen’s first television series since the West Wing ended six years ago.  The actor has reunited in the past via guest appearances on Spin City and Two and a Half Men; however, this is pretty extensive by comparison.  Becoming a regular puts him on the hook for 90 episodes should the show meet its ratings goals and receive the mandated renewal.

On that note, the head of FX has alluded to the inevitability of the juggernaut-sized pickup.  John Landgraf says the that viewership is about where it needs to be for the series to go forward beyond its first year on the air insinuating that a 1.0 18-49 rating is completely acceptable as that is where the sitcom seems to have nested after six episodes.
