Russell Brand in Talks for ‘Pierre Pierre’ Lead

Things are looking up for Russell Brand’s film career.  Despite striking out with last year’s comedy Arthur, it looks like someone is willing to give the Get Him to the Greek star another shot.  More specifically, Larry Charles who is best known for directing Borat and is coming off of the moderately successful film The Dictator.

His follow-up effort is a comedy titled Pierre Pierre and at one time it had Jim Carey set to star as an obnoxious Frenchman who steals the Mona Lisa.  Carey has reportedly dropped out of the project which is where Brand comes in.  In effect, the actor will be replacing the Bruce Almighty actor which is not exactly a balanced switch in star power.

Variety reports today that the comedian is currently in talks for the role.  This would be one of three upcoming live-action projects on his slate that includes the already-shot untitled Diablo Cody project and a family film from Paramount entitled The Hauntrepreneur.  In addition to all of that, Brand’s FX talk show Brand X recently received a seven episode pickup as the network will reportedly give the series a chance to retool and grow some legs.
