‘Snow White and the Huntsman’ Sequel May Need a New Director…

In what has to be the most strange and disappointing piece of entertainment news out there today, there seems to be a bit of a tabloid sensation building around the relationship between Kristen Stewart and her Snow White and the Huntsman director Rupert Sanders.  While I generally avoid talking about such fodder, the Twilight star and now the former commercial director have since confirmed the speculation, thus suggesting there is obviously going to be some huge ramifications surrounding Universal’s newest franchise–something that cannot be ignored.

This is in reference to Snow White and the Huntsman’s sequel which is currently being written by David Koepp (Spider-Man.) Details have been hush, hush but it looks as if early rumors that it would be a spin-off of the Huntsman character might be overblown especially after seeing confirmation the Stewart and Hemsworth are both contractually obligated to return.  Given that half the film’s audience was female, it would be kind of senseless to drop her with no obvious replacement.

Since that is out of the question, Rupert Sanders who has not yet signed on to direct round two will more than likely be out of the project.  Universal will want no part of this and they probably were on the fence about asking the guy back as well.  The art style was amazing and certainly will be missed, but unless there is some device that rewinds time it is very unlikely Stewart will ever be directed by Sanders again.

Luckily for Sanders, the 41-year-old is in high demand.  Snow White and the Huntsman was pretty awesome given that it was rushed to market so it could compete with Relativity’s Mirror, Mirror and a sequel with the director sounded very promising given the studio promised to slow things down.  This is definitely some sour news to hear for any fan of the blockbuster.

Snow White and the Huntsman grossed over $380 million globally during its box office run which began in June.
