Bryan Cranston to Direct Episode of ‘The Office’

Last year it was Modern Family, this year it is The Office.  Emmy-winner Bryan Cranston is continuing to bolster his directing credentials as today it is being reported that the Breaking Bad star will helm an upcoming episode of the long-running NBC comedy series.  While specific details are few and far between, the episode in question is titled Work Bus and is set to air on October 18.

Before it was confirmed by anyone, it was announced via Rainn Wilson’s Twitter feed.  The actor plays the role of Dwight Schrute on The Office and will star in an upcoming spin-off series.  More specifically, he had this to say on the topic: “Free meth for The Office! (look who’s directing…)” with a link to the above image.  This is certainly a clever way to break news and it is a bit surprising we did not know about this until it was actually happening.

For those of you curious about the actor’s directorial resume, it is surprisingly loaded.  The actor went behind the camera for seven episodes of Malcolm in the Middle and three episodes of Breaking Bad (one of which yet to air.)  Before all this, he directed a little known film called Last Chance back in 1999 which he also wrote.  No one particularly cared for that feature, but it might be worth a guess that Cranston is beefing up his resume to push for another turn at big screen directing one day.
