A new trailer of sorts has popped up for Salim Akil’s directorial follow-up to Jumping the Broom entitled Sparkle. The film may best be known as Whitney Houston’s last movie among the public, but really this is meant as a starring vehicle for American Idol alumna Jordin Sparks.
The actress is playing the title role in this pic about three sisters who form a girl group that becomes a Motown sensation. Ultimately, this feature (a remake of a 1976 film by the same name) is about the perils of fame rather than the rise to success.
Sparkle stars Carmen Ejogo, Tika Sumpter, Whitney Houston, and Jordin Sparks. Audiences can find it in theaters on August 17.
