The trailer is now out for Colin Farrell’s reunion with In Bruges director Martin McDonagh. Dubbed Seven Pyschopaths, the movie centers on a struggling screenwriter (Farrell) that gets caught up in LA’s criminal underworld following his friend’s kidnapping of a gangster’s Shih Tzu. While seemingly benign, many are certain to be excited for this comedy because of how impressive the director’s previous outing was in that he managed to find situational comedy under unnerving circumstances so effortlessly.
This promo is exactly what you would expect, but far less dark than In Bruges due in part to the setup. It might actually remind a lot of people about the comedic plots from the 90′s where there were well integrated gimmicks that did not simply serve to setup joke number two. Hopefully this will be on a lot of people’s radar because I would very much like to see this type of well-developed comedy make a comeback.
Stars of the film include Colin Farrell, Abbie Cornish, Woody Harrelson, Christopher Walken, Sam Rockwell, and Zeljko Ivanek. The US release date for Seven Psychopaths is October 12.
