This weekend there is a new dramatic series premiering on BBC America that most viewers probably have heard nothing about. We chalk this up to the show’s obscure network, but really the source material is what might lead a bunch of people to give this one a shot. The program is called Copper and is about a NYPD detective who seeks justice for the immigrants of the Five Points in 1860′s New York. In other words, the backdrop is shared with Martin Scorsese’s 2002 classic Gangs of New York which starred Leonardo DiCaprio and Daniel Day-Lewis.
The reason this is in our crosshairs today is because the cable channel has put out the first few minutes of the show. What you will see is more action than drama, but do not be fooled though as the series aims to be a bit more dialogue heavy than what is on display today.
The cast includes Tom Weston-Jones and Franka Potente (The Bourne Identity) among others. Copper premieres on BBC America Sunday, August 19.
