FX is preparing to get into the music business. Well, only sort of. According to reports surfacing today, the cable network has finalized a script development deal with writer Sidney Quashi and rap legend Dr. Dre for a drama pilot.
The series is set against the backdrop of present-day LA and is said to combine the music and crime businesses. There is no word on the extent of the latter, but we surely expect more ‘thug life’ than mafia considering this is a West Coast-set program.
This is the second high-profile pilot FX has picked up this summer as just over a week ago it was confirmed that they had ordered a drama pilot by the name of The Bridge. That series is a lot different though in that it is a police investigation series that follows the discovery of a dead body on a bridge, hence the name. Considering that show’s overseas roots, it would appear that the cable network is going for a Killing-type series. Cold Case alumni Meredith Stiehm and Elwood Reid are behind that project.
