One of the more interesting tent-pole projects in Hollywood right now has to be Marvel Studios’ Guardians of the Galaxy film. By opting to use the seldom-heard-of property to launch the villain for The Avengers’ sequel, the Disney-owned studio is making a huge gamble that no one else in the industry would even consider taking. If the risky project fails, then it could have massive ramifications on their whole Marvel Universe which could either make or break the back of a number of big budget efforts years from now.
That said, it is exceedingly important that they get good behind-the-camera talent to make this thing work. Because of this subtlety, we are reading today that Marvel Studios has enlisted three-time blacklist scribe (that means he is good) Chris McCoy to rewrite Guardians of the Galaxy. THR reports that he will be taking over for Nicole Perlman who wrote the previous draft.
Just to recap what Guardians of the Galaxy is exactly, it is the fourth film in line from Marvel Studios after Iron Man 3, Thor: The Dark World, and Captain America: The Winter Solder. It features a time traveling group of last-of-their-kind species who will battle Thanos, the villain for The Avengers 2. Characters include Groot, Star-Lord, Rocket Raccoon, Gamora, and Drax the Destroyer.
Guardians of the Galaxy is currently slated for release on August 1, 2014.
