She’s Out of My League director Jim Field Smith is at it again. This time he has assembled quite a good cast for his next film which is, believe it or not, about the politicking of a statewide butter competition. Enter Ty Burrell of Modern Family fame who plays the ‘Elvis of butter’ and his wife portrayed by Jennifer Garner. The plot of this film will have Garner’s character taking on an orphan for the spot of top dog once Burrell hangs up the Land O’Lakes for good.
Making things a bit more interesting is that Burrell’s character has a mistress hell-bent on winning the competition herself. As you can tell from the following trailer, that does not exactly go so well so she ends up coaching the orphan who is not above playing the race card in her pursuit of glory.
While the trailer is not of the red-band variety, what you are about to see is a promotion for an R-rated comedy. It is definitely nice to see such a grandiose cast in such a feature as it reminds us a little bit of Horrible Bosses, but whether that results in some A-grade work is up in the air. Smith’s previous effort headed by Jay Baruchel was genius for its situational comedy, but was lacking in the plot department a tad so hopefully he can remedy the latter of the two and make this one a classic.
Cast members of the film include Hugh Jackman, Jennifer Garner, Ashley Greene, Alicia Silverstone, Olivia Wilde, Rob Corddry, and Ty Burrell. Butter releases into theaters on October 5.
