Kenneth Branagh’s Jack Ryan franchise reboot has quietly begun casting up as the director has signed up another supporting actor for the Chris Pine starring vehicle in which he will also star. Kevin Costner has been tapped to fill the role as Pine’s CIA mentor, making this the first major addition to the former action star’s plate for quite some time.
The actor is in the midst of a resurgence of sorts lead by the crazy successful History Channel mini-series Hatfields & McCoys which he starred in and produced. Perhaps Christopher Nolan should get some credit for rediscovery as well as the Batman director captured Costner for the role of Pa Kent in Man of Steel long before the Emmy-nominated mini broke cable television records for viewership.
Nonetheless, Costner is back and nothing says that more than the fact that Europa’s currently trying to ‘Liam Neeson’ the veteran actor by getting him to star as a dying assassin in Three Days to Kill. The Adi Hasak and Luc Besson-scripted effort that centers on a government-contracted killer who is determined to reconnect with his daughter while taking on a final mission. Deadline says that McG (This Means War, Terminator Salvation) could end up directing the project making things a bit more interesting.
