We may not be to the point where we need to check out the week-to-week iTunes releases, but making a whole lot of noise this week is the R-rated release of Bachelorette from Terriers scribe Leslye Headland. In addition to being a well-received directorial debut for Headland, the movie has scaled to number one on the iTunes charts upon its rare direct-to-Apple release.
Part of its success is its ‘Hangover with girls’ plot coupled with a so-so cast that when combined works wonders. Leading this effort was Kirsten Dunst, Isla Fisher, and Lizzy Caplan who each have recognizability. The distributor on this one is RADiUS which TWC created just for non-traditional releases, but judging from this success, a few people in Hollywood are certain to feel disappointed they missed the boat as a theatrical bow could have been fairly respectable.
If you want to see this one in theaters, Bachelorette will arrive on the big screen on September 7 at select locations. Until that time, a rental will cost about $10 on the iTunes store for this offering which was EP’d by Funny or Die founders Adam McKay and Will Ferrell.
