Just yesterday, it was announced the Lee Daniels was teaming with Hugh Jackman for an MLK assassination picture, so it is only suiting that today we get to see the director’s follow-up to Precious entitled The Paperboy.
The plot centers on reporter Ward Jansen’s (Matthew McConaughey) investigation of a case involving death row inmate Hillary Van Wetter (John Cusack.) Things get a tad complicated when the reporter’s brother (Zac Efron) falls for the girl the convict has been romancing (Nicole Kidman.)
As you can tell from the following trailer, this is a hard thriller which is a lot more than what audiences have asked from ‘inmate investigation’ films in the past. McConaughey looks great, Cusack creepy, Kidman far from horrible, and Efron…Well, we might just need to see a little more of his character before we consider him golden.
The Paperboy releases into theaters on October 5.
