Reese Witherspoon to Return to Romantic Comedies in ‘The Beard’

This Means Wars might have been a relative disappointment at the domestic box office, but its Academy Award-winning star Reese Witherspoon is not about to turn her back on the romantic comedy genre after all these years.  This week brings word that the actress is set to both star in and produce the Becca Greene-scripted effort The Beard.

The movie will have the actress possibly playing a faux-girlfriend of sorts as the film is said to deal with gay people that use women to create the illusion that they are not in fact homosexuals.  There are no further details at this time other than the fact that the title refers to the film’s central gimmick.

This project will join a few other big movies on Witherspoon’s plate that includes the Memphis Three-based Devil’s Knot and an indie drama with Matthew McConaughey called Mud.  Given that expectations are already high for the former, the latter is what interests us the most because McConaughey has been steam rolling his parts as of late so this one has potential to impress.
