Up until today, it looked like the only major directorial vehicle on Sean Penn’s plate was the Robert De Niro, Kristen Wiig-starrer The Comedian. Now, there looks to be a second in-the-works project from the Oscar-winning actor. The man behind Into the Wild and The Pledge is currently in talks to helm Crazy for the Storm.
The movie is based on a survival memoir by Norman Ollestad that tells the tale of his unique relationship with his father–the man who forced him into the world of extreme surfing and downhill skiing at age three. Because of those skills, he was able to survive a plane crash in a blizzard making this one heck of a story that needs to be told.
The script comes from Will Fetters who is coming off the Zac Efron movie The Lucky One.
Penn can next be seen in Warner Bros. Gangster Squad which was recently pushed to January due to reshoots surrounding a scene that could be deemed insensitive following the Aurora shootings. He is also said to be on board the remake of The Secret Life of Walter Mitty which Ben Stiller is directing.
