Ben Affleck’s tepid performance in the Daredevil movie from nearly a decade ago is apparently not going to hold the actor-turned-director back from taking another turn at the genre. Studios have taken notice of his prowess behind the camera with such critical gems as The Town and Gone Baby Gone, but more specifically he has caught the attention of Warner Bros. who desperately needs a credible face on their Justice League movie.
Variety is reporting today that Ben Affleck is being more than eyed for the project now that Christopher Nolan is said to be uninterested. Do not be disappointed though that The Dark Knight trilogy director is not involved as he clearly will have his stamp on the finished product as the upcoming Superman reboot dubbed Man of Steel that he is producing is assumed to be the first major property in a ‘Phase One’ so to speak of the Justice League Universe.
Ben Affleck may have started in front of the camera, but audiences pretty much rejected him in that capacity last decade which is why there is no way he will star as any of the superheroes. On the other end of the table, he is widely respected and continues to put out more films including this fall’s Argo which takes on the hostage crisis during the Iranian Revolution.
Oh, and if you are looking for a tie-in, the actor did star in the period drama Hollywoodland as the original TV Superman, George Reeves.
Update: Reports are now saying that there is a possibility Affleck could be in front of the camera for this one. Aquaman? The Flash? Some meaningless S.H.I.E.L.D.-type role? We shall soon find out. Another new tidbit of information is that Affleck has actually received a copy of the Will Beall-written script, so he is one of a handful of people privy to the intended screenplay that awaits Batman, Superman, Green Lantern, Wonder Woman, and The Flash.
