’300′ Prequel Now Titled ’300: Rise Of An Empire’

It has already been five and a half years since Gerard Butler rose to stardom in 300 yet the cogs are still moving on a long-gestating prequel through Warner Bros. and on that end we receive an update today.  The studio has confirmed that the next movie in the franchise will be titled 300: Rise Of An Empire.  Of course, this is far from a blockbuster announcement by any means as there are huge concerns that the allure of graphic novel offerings has already ran its course in addition to worries that the loss of lead Gerard Butler would be felt.

With that aside, the movie will center around familiar face Rodrigo Santoro whom many of you might remember as the Persian King Xeres trying to put the Spartans in their place.  That probably will not be enough for the pic to hang its hat on, but there most certainly could be more breakout stars to build the Noam Murro-direct picture around.  Should that not be the case, I am afraid to say it but this could be a complete disaster even though 300 raked in $450 million at the global box office.

3000: Rise Of An Empire hits theaters nationwide on August 2, 2013.
