David Gordon Green to Direct Nicolas Cage in ‘Joe’

With Stolen coming out next week, Nicolas Cage has lined up yet another new movie to replace the film in his ‘development’ slate.  The actor has just been attached to star in the novel-to-big screen conversion of Joe from The Sitter director David Gordon Green who will be working from a Gary Hawkins script.  The 1991 book comes from author Larry Brown.

The project is about an ex-con who becomes a role model to a 15-year-old homeless child.  Set against the backdrop of a small town in Mississippi, Joe will have the two seeking redemption and better lives.  Naturally, the comparison here will be Matchstick Men in which Cage was endowed with a con artist daughter especially since this one will offer darkness with a side of comedy as well.

In regards to other Nic Cage movies, there are a lot of them coming down the pipe, but the most high profile will be Kick-Ass 2 (debuting next summer) and The Expendables 3 should the movie get made.  There is still no word on National Treasure 3; however, the last update we received on that production was that it was pushed to 2014.  Any further down the road and people might start to speculate the Disney is prepared to let their cash cow evaporate.
