And we have a winner! This year’s jam packed Christmas slate will feature three comedies vying for the holiday bump: The Guilt Trip, Billy Crystal’s Parental Guidance, and the Paul Rudd-led Knocked Up spin-off This is 40. At first glance, none of these appeared to be real dynamos until today when movie goers received an initial look at the Seth Rogen/Barbra Streisand-starrer The Guilt Trip.
Coming from a script by Crazy, Stupid, Love writer Dan Fogelman under the direction of Anne Fletcher (The Proposal,) you can definitely see the situational humor will bleed through the screen. That is what we expected, and that is what we are witnessing in today’s clip that helps define the film as something that will live up to its billing. While the two stars in front of the camera on this are not exactly box office draws, they are each more than capable of mirroring the talent behind the scenes if given the opportunity. I believe that is what we are seeing here today thanks in part to some stellar chemistry.
Of course, we are still waiting on the trailer which is presumably being cut as watch today’s footage. Stay tuned for that with a mental check mark next to this movie as possible good times ahead.
Additional stars of the film include Yvonne Strahovski, Adam Scott, Danny Pudi, and Colin Hanks. The Guilt Trip releases into theaters on December 25, 2012.
