Good news for fans of former MMA fighter Gina Carano–her upcoming appearance in Fast & the Furious 6 will not be the last time we see her on the big screen. It has been announced Monday that the now-actress would get a starring role in the upcoming all-women action flick that has been dubbed by the press as Female Expendables.
Since her performance in Steven Soderbergh’s Haywire at the beginning of the year, the action star has been a relatively hot commodity, picking up key roles in the next Fast movie and the John Stockwell-thriller In the Blood. That last one is a pretty low status event when compared to the blockbusters theatergoers tend to flock towards, so the news that dropped this week is pretty major for her career.
Producer Adi Shankar had a little to say on the casting. In some comments he made to Variety, Shankar said making this movie without Gina would be like “making Twix without caramel.” He also went on to say that he is in talks with other prominent actresses in the genre to co-star alongside Carano. We do not exactly anticipate the age range on this one to be on par with what we saw with Lionsgate’s franchise, but a few classic icons look to be obligatory.
Seeing how the net pretty much gravitated to the idea of enlisting this week’s addition long ago, we are witnessing that Shankar has no problem listening to the audience and that would mean that actors on everyone’s ‘wish lists’ might be on his as well and that includes Angelina Jolie. With a sequel to Salt in developmental hell, we at least expect a cameo from the A-lister as she seems to gravitate to these projects despite her growing dramatic credentials.
