Matt Bomer to Play Colin Farrell’s Father in Akiva Goldsman’s ‘Winter’s Tale’

There is more casting news today in regards to Chuck alum and White Collar star Matt Bomer.  Last seen on the big screen in this summer’s Magic Mike, the actor is signed on for quite a major project in the form of Akiva Goldsman’s Winter’s Tale.  He, Lucy Griffiths (True Blood,) and Eva Marie Saint (Superman Returns) all joined that cast today that already includes Colin Farrell, Will Smith, Russell Crowe, and William Hurt.

This is a nice project for Bomer that will capitalize on some recent momentum.  In this particular feature, Bomer will play Farrell’s father and before you go ‘woah,’ let’s remind everyone what this film is about.  Based on a Mark Helprin novel, Winter’s Tale tells the story of a dying woman that falls in love with the thief who breaks into her Manhattan home.  The drama spends time in the 19th century and modern day, suggesting some time-warpy stuff will take center stage.

This report from Deadline is a bit of a surprise because we have not exactly heard of the project much at all recently.  In fact, the last time major information surfaced on Winter’s Tale it was to say that Smith and Crowe might have supporting gigs in the project as a favor to Goldsman whose writing credits include I, Robot and A Beautiful Mind.  Back then, the two additions were seen as a saving grace to the dying movie which is being billed at the producer’s first major directorial vehicle.
