An English language trailer for Mike Newell’s Great Expectations has finally made it to the net. Seeing how this project comes from the director behind Prince of Persia and Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire this one will be certainly be watched closely by a number of people due in part to the disappointment that was Persia. It would appear he is a pretty solid man behind-the-camera and most directors are allowed at least one mulligan right?
His new film is based on the Charles Dickens novel by the same name about an orphan (Jeremy Irvine) who becomes a gentleman with the help of an unknown benefactor (Ralph Fiennes.) The cast is fairly well regarded, so that should go a long way in making Mike Newell’s next offering a recovery to say the least.
The trailer will certainly help in validating that sentiment between the haunting music and brilliant-looking appearances by Helena Bonham Carter and Holliday Grainger (a regular on Showtime’s The Borgias.) The lack of blockbuster appeal may be there, but that is the only deficiency this trailer has as we eagerly anticipated news on Great Expectations’ U.S. roll-out which is yet to be divulged.
