TV Guest Spots: Stephen Colbert on ‘The Office’ & Matthew Broderick on ‘Modern Family’

Television guest spots are most always welcomed.  They manage to spice up our favorite shows from getting a bit formulaic without stretching too far from what works and usually the bigger the celebrity, the better.  Today, it was announced that two broadcast favorites are getting such treatment as Stephen Colbert has a date with The Office and Matthew Broderick will make a fourth season appearance on Modern Family.

Regarding Stephen Colbert, the host of Comedy Central’s The Colbert Report will be on the upcoming Halloween episode of The Office.  Interestingly enough, we already have details on who he will play–a rival of Ed Helms’ Andy who was a former member of the boss man’s a cappella group Here Comes Trouble.  His character’s name?  Broccoli Rob.

The other news in the category today is that Matthew Broderick will be making a guest appearance on Modern Family.  This is far from out of the ordinary as several movie stars hit the show in recent years include Edward Norton.  Broderick’s character will be that of Phil Dunphy’s neurotic friend which may seem oddly familiar because Phil seems to be the catalyst for most guest spots on the Emmy-winning comedy.  Details beyond that are scarce, but the episode will likely air before the end of the year.
