‘A Good Day to Die Hard’ Trailer: “The 007 of Plainfield, New Jersey”

Prior to today’s trailer reveal, there was not a whole lot of confidence in the next Die Hard movie.  The transition between installments would be fairly major as the last one dealt with hackers and terrorism, while this new effort would deal with the Russian mob–a somewhat tiring backdrop.  That is not even mentioning that the villain is no longer the great Timothy Olyphant who we have come to admire through the years for his role on the FX series Justified.

That said, we are a bit more optimistic having actually seen footage because despite a February release, the feature looks like a blockbuster action flick.  At the very least, this appears to be the scale of a film that audiences would expect in early or late summer which should help drive ticket sales from those not wanting your run of the mill winter garbage.  On that note, Live Free or Die Hard got crushed (relatively speaking) a few years back despite stellar reviews simply because of loaded competition.  This explains why we are seeing such a bizarre release date.

Conclusion:  The film looks great, and we are eager to see more to disprove our ‘fill in the blank’-style satisfaction.

Director John Moore will be taking the reins of A Good Day to Die Hard.  The movie will release into theaters on Valentine’s Day 2013.
