We knew that Rupert Wyatt was likely tragically out as the director of Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, so we were anticipating a quick turnaround at Fox and they did not disappoint. The studio has recruited Cloverfield director Matt Reeves for the coveted gig of helming the Andy Serkis-led film that aims to show the continued pitting of genetically altered apes against mankind.
Details remain scarce at this time, but we are aware that the Gollum-player will sport the motion-capture suit once more as Caesar thanks in part to a mega-deal with the behind-the-scenes player last November. This signing was crucial to the franchise’s longevity as it was his portrayal of an innocent animal-turned-vengeful war bringer that helped the pic gross nearly half-a-billion worldwide.
Dawn of the Planets of the Apes hits theaters nationwide on May 23, 2014.
