There is some Elizabeth Banks news to report today as the actress has picked up the leading role in a comedy from Mr. Deeds helmer Steven Brill. Coming off her performance in the low-budget hit Pitch Perfect, she has apparently taking another, bigger turn in the genre via a new project called Walk of Shame.
The film has Banks playing an aspiring LA news anchor who parties like there is no tomorrow after experiencing a major career setback. Naturally, her agent calls with some good news the next day at which point she must make it to an audition with no money, car, or memory of the night’s events. There is no word at this time how much of a Hangover rediscovery vibe will play in the feature, but it sounds like a winner thanks to the addition of the Our Idiot Brother star.
Let’s not forget that Elizabeth Banks comes from the land of laughers with credits that include Role Models, The 40 Year Old Virgin, Zack and Miri Make a Porno, and the television series’ Scrubs and 30 Rock. It only seems like she may not be a proper fit for the genre anymore as she is beginning to gain notoriety from her more serious offerings with people who previously were unfamiliar with the actress. Her excellent portrayal of Effie Trinket in The Hunger Games has a lot to do with that. That said, it is also worth mentioning her next trip to theaters will be via the ensemble-heavy, R-comedy Movie 43 which is due out in January.
The bigger story might be that this is another project from Steven Brill who is notorious for striking out with both critics and audiences. His last movie, Drillbit Taylor starring Owen Wilson, managed only $50 million worldwide suggesting a very low budget for Walk of Shame.
