The cast of The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel must have had a petty good time filming the John Madden-directed dramedy because word broke this week that everyone is on board for a sequel and why not? This is a movie that cost $10 million to make and grossed $134.4 million globally at the box office.
Vulture broke the story yesterday that the second effort would indeed be happening in a piece they did on how films with older ensembles are trending right now. They specifically compared the flick to Red which is also receiving a sequel after seeing a high level of interest from audiences. Of course, it should be mentioned that the action comedy nature of Red does help appeal to younger demographics; however, the point has been made.
Fox Searchlight confirms that Judi Dench, Maggie Smith, Bill Nighy, and Judi Dench are all up for round two which is really all that needed to have happened to get this thing made.
