Just a few days ago, it hit the news wires that Ryan Reynolds was eyeing a thriller from Paranormal Activity writer Michael R. Perry titled The Voices, but it looks like that will not be his next project now as this afternoon he has joined Jon Favreau’s Battle for Bonneville. The actor is currently in final negotiations to star in the true story about land speed record holders, Art and Walt Arfons.

Coming from Bourne Legacy writer Dan Gilroy, the movie traces the duo through competition and cooperation as they seek to set the land speed world records in a jet-powered vehicle. The story comes out of Deadline who reminds us that Favreau has always had an attraction to this topic, so it should not exactly surprise people who are curious why the Iron Man and Jersey Boys helmer would choose this as his next piece of work.
As for Reynolds, he is reportedly still in talks for The Voices, but you will not have to wait for either project to drop to see him next on the big screen as he will star alongside Jeff Bridges in the crime comedy R.I.P.D. which is due out in July 2013. No word on whether the Iron Monger connection had anything to do with today’s story.

From what I have read about this so-called “Battle For Bonneville” project writer Gilroy needs to do some serious homework on his subjects, both of whom were personal friends and professional colleagues of mine. The Arfons brothers NEVER put aside their differences. Gilroy is hallucinating to think otherwise and naive to think the families and racing community would stand for such BS in a film.
