Today Show: Tyler Perry on Replacing Morgan Freeman, His OWN Deal, & More ‘Madea’ Movies

Only a few early reviews have come out for Alex Cross, but those that have are not exactly positive.  Needless to say, this is a ‘franchise character’ that Tyler Perry will be playing as he is taking over for Morgan Freeman who led the successful Alex Cross-based films Kiss The Girls and Along Came a Spider over a decade ago, so some degree of success is expected regardless of critical reaction.  In that lense, we take a look at the film producer’s brief appearance on The Today Show this morning where he spoke with Savannah Guthrie about taking over for an Oscar-nominated actor.

Also mentioned was Tyler Perry’s new exclusive content deal with OWN.  He elaborated on the projects somewhat by saying that two shows are currently in development, a sitcom and a drama.  To wrap things up, the actor added that there will be more Madea movies if there continues to be demand for them.  In other words, a return to drag for Perry is inevitable.

Alex Cross releases into theaters on Friday.
