Cinemax has done very little to impress us with their foray into scripted programming so far, but because the premium network is under the same umbrella as HBO we are cautiously optimistic that they eventually will get to a point where we suddenly care. Perhaps that is why we are paying attention to every new project they put out like we do Starz. Scripted non-procedural dramas may be on the upswing in popularity; however, a shortage still remains and that is essentially the draw here.
Under the spotlight today is a new series from True Blood creator Alan Ball called Banshee who is attached as an executive producer. The series stars Antony Starr as Lucas Hood, a master thief who becomes the sheriff of Banshee, Pennsylvania. Naturally, his past comes back to haunt him. Here is the first full-on footage from the show for your consideration.
The premiere date in Friday, January 11.
