Anna Faris is hanging up B-stardom on the big screen for the trials and tribulations of the multi-camera sitcom. Word broke Friday afternoon that the Scary Movie actress has been tapped to front Mom for CBS. The show hails from Chuck Lorre who is the brain behind such broadcast mainstays as Two and a Half Men and The Big Bang Theory which instantly gives this new series a heap of credibility.
The show centers on a newly-sober single mom trying to pull her life together in Napa Valley aka Wine Country of all places. This is the third show that Lorre has backed set in California with Dharma and Greg being the first. Mike & Molly is the sole outlier on the showrunners’ resume as the Melissa McCarthy-led series takes place in Chicago.
This should strike many as an interesting move for the actress as many believed she was just now gaining recognition for her work in feature films after years in slapstick fare. Anna Faris may still best be known for her role in the Scary Movie franchise, but the series’ fifth installment has noticeably moved on, casting Ashley Tisdale in the lead instead. Faris’ more recent theatrical efforts include The Dictator and What’s Your Number. Her next appearance will be in Movie 43 which is cameos in alongside her husband, Parks & Recreation actor Chris Pratt.
