Musical talent has done extraordinarily well through the years at Saturday Night Live when given the opportunity to host, so it should come as no surprise that Lorne Michaels has tapped The Voice judge Adam Levine to helm the second show of the new year. Maroon 5 will not be the musical guest though as it should be noted that Kendrick Lamar will be providing the vocals on the program which will air January 26.
Adam Levine is the lead singer for Maroon 5; a recurring judge on NBC’s singing competition series The Voice; and recently had a supporting role in the current season of American Horror Story: Asylum. It is safe to say he earned the opportunity to follow up Bruno Mars as a singer-turned-host for the show, but it might be tough to match the ratings for the week prior which will feature Jennifer Lawrence whose likability is soaring after receiving good will from The Hunger Games and more recently Silver Linings Playbook which many suspect could earn her an Academy Award.
New York, NY – January 3, 2013 – SNL rings in the new year on January 19 with Jennifer Lawrence and The Lumineers, both making their SNL debut. The Academy Award and Golden Globe nominated actress can currently be seen in the Golden Globe nominated “Silver Linings Playbook.” Lawrence’s past credits include the starring role in the film adaptation of “The Hunger Games,” “Winter’s Bone,” and “X-Men: First Class.”
The Lumineers received two 2013 Grammy Award nominations for Best New Artist and Best Americana album. Their hit single, “Ho Hey,” off of their self-titled debut album reached number three on the Billboard Hot 100 chart and went double platinum, while the album has been certified gold in the U.S., Canada and Ireland.
Adam Levine will make his hosting debut on January 26. Levine currently stars as a musician coach on NBC’s hit show “The Voice” and is the front man and guitarist for the multiple Grammy Award-winning recording group, Maroon 5.
Hip hop artist Kendrick Lamar’s album “good kid, m.A.A.d city,” was released October 22, 2012 to universal acclaim, and debuted atop the Billboard R&B/Hip-Hop Album chart and at number two on the Billboard 200. His album went gold and sold more copies in its first week than any other debut album in 2012.
“Saturday Night Live” is produced in association with Broadway Video. The creator and executive producer is Lorne Michaels.
