We just received our first look at the trailer for Niels Arden Oplev’s Dead Man Down with the Christmas Day offerings from Hollywood, and there has not been a whole lot to digest on this movie since other than the director has entrusted his English-langugage debut with Colin Farrell of all people. That is not to say that he is garbage when it comes to a leading man, but more so to acknowledge that he stars in flops more often than he does hits which is always a big red flag.
Having said that, we are still optimistic because that probably is not entirely his fault. He was great in Seven Psychopaths, In Bruges, and the far more noteworthy Horrible Bosses where he brilliantly played a balding, coke-snorting jerk much to our amusement. While his next pic is far from the comedy genre where the actor shines the most, he will be playing a crime boss’ right-hand man who becomes a hired gun for Noomi Rapace who we last saw abort her alien fetus in Prometheus. How can this go wrong? There are lots of ways, but the trailer was rather brilliant and so is Mr. Oplev thus our engaged enthusiasm about what Dead Man Down could ultimately deliver.
Stars of the film includes Colin Farrell, Noomi Rapace, Dominic Cooper, and Terrence Howard. Dead Man Down lands in theaters on March 8.
