Even though marketing was already in full swing for Paul Feig’s follow-up to Bridesmaids, Fox is electing to pass on the genre-packed season of spring in favor of the summer. The date being given for The Heat is now June 28th which should sound somewhat familiar because that is roughly where Seth MacFarlane’s Ted cleaned up last year after the release of G.I. Joe was delayed. Since both are R-comedies, it does not take a rocket scientist to figure out what the studio is looking to get for juggling its schedule.
The Heat was originally set to release on April 5 which was a pretty good, low-competition spot to begin with. Now, the Melissa McCarthy-starrer will do battle with Kick-Ass 2, White House Down, and the second weekend remnants of World War Z. It is hard to imagine Fox would do such a thing unless they believed they got the goods, but then again those three pics should skew male although there is evidence to suggest the female demo would be interesting in the sequel to Kick-Ass and the Channing Tatum-starrer.
